Electrolysis Hair Removal

Please follow the personalised instructions from your practitioner, as they take priority over this general guidance.

View treatment details →

Electrolysis is the only FDA-recognised method of permanent hair removal. A fine sterile probe is inserted into each hair follicle, where a small electrical current destroys the follicle's ability to produce new hair. Because each hair is treated individually, a series of treatments is required to achieve permanent results.

Following these instructions will help ensure the best possible healing and treatment outcome.

BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT

For 3–5 days before your appointment:

Stay well hydrated.

Drink plenty of water.

Wear SPF 50 daily if the treatment area is exposed to the sun.

Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning.

Hair Preparation

Do not wax, tweeze, thread, sugar, or epilate for at least 4 weeks before your treatment.

Shaving or trimming the hair is acceptable unless your therapist advises otherwise.

Hair should be visible enough for your therapist to identify and treat each follicle.

Avoid for 24–48 hours before treatment:

Retinol or Retinoids

Glycolic, Lactic or Salicylic Acids

Chemical peels

Exfoliating scrubs

Alcohol-based skincare

Excessive caffeine immediately before your appointment, as it may increase skin sensitivity.

Please inform your therapist if you:

Are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Have diabetes or delayed wound healing.

Have a pacemaker or implanted electrical device (where applicable).

Have epilepsy.

Have active cold sores or skin infections.

Have open wounds, eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis in the treatment area.

Are taking blood-thinning medication.

Are taking medication that increases skin sensitivity.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

It is normal to experience:

Mild redness

Slight swelling around the hair follicles

Tenderness

Small bumps similar to goosebumps

Mild warmth

These reactions are a normal part of the healing process and usually settle within 24–48 hours.

FIRST 24–48 HOURS

DO:

Keep the treated area clean.

Wash gently with a mild cleanser.

Apply the soothing product recommended by your therapist.

Drink plenty of water.

Allow your skin to heal naturally.

AVOID:

Touching or rubbing the treated area.

Jacuzzis.

Saunas.

Steam rooms.

Intense exercise causing excessive sweating.

Tight clothing that may rub against the treated area.

FOR THE NEXT 5–7 DAYS

Avoid:

Retinol or Retinoids.

Glycolic, Lactic or Salicylic Acids.

Exfoliating scrubs.

Chemical peels.

Waxing, threading, tweezing, sugaring, or epilating.

Picking at any small scabs that may form.

Shaving or trimming is acceptable between treatments if necessary.

SUN PROTECTION

The treated skin may be more sensitive to UV exposure.

Apply SPF 50 daily to exposed areas.

Reapply every 2 hours if outdoors.

Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 48–72 hours after treatment.

Wear protective clothing or a hat where appropriate.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Following your Electrolysis treatment you may notice:

Progressive permanent reduction in hair growth.

Finer, softer regrowth between sessions.

Slower hair growth.

Smoother skin over time.

Because hair grows in different cycles, multiple treatments are required to permanently treat every active follicle.

TREATMENT FREQUENCY

Your treatment schedule will depend on the treatment area, hair density, and hair growth cycle.

Most clients begin with treatments every:

1–2 weeks for facial hair.

2–4 weeks for body areas.

As hair growth decreases, treatments become less frequent until only occasional maintenance sessions are required.

Your therapist will develop a personalised treatment plan based on your individual needs.

PLEASE CONTACT MC AESTHETICS IMMEDIATELY IF YOU EXPERIENCE

Severe swelling.

Increasing pain.

Excessive blistering.

Yellow or green discharge.

Fever.

Persistent redness lasting longer than expected.

Signs of infection.

Any unexpected reaction.

YOUR HAIR REMOVAL JOURNEY

Electrolysis is a gradual process that requires consistency and patience. By attending your scheduled appointments and following your aftercare instructions, you can achieve long-lasting, permanent hair reduction with healthy, beautiful skin.
